Skitouring in Montenegro – beautiful mountain ranges & vistas in the national parks

Montenegro is a stunning, mountainous country on the Adriatic Sea.

For centuries, its long and beautiful coastline has been attracting people all over the world. Montenegro is home to many popular coastal cities (e.g. Kotor and Budva), and amazing mountains that are waiting to be discovered. In the middle of the country is the famous Durmitor National Park, with the highest peak Bobotov Kuk at 2522 metres. Durmitor is a wide mountain, with long valleys that are perfect for freeride skiing, ski touring, splitboarding. Next to the small city of Zabljak there is a ski centre called Savin Kuk (2313m), which is the perfect starting point to get to the extremely picturesque peak, Shljeme (2455m). Zabljak is an excellent base for a multi day ski touring trip in Durmitor. Here you can find great accommodation in the local villas, and also rely on our professional guides to make the most of your visit. From Durmitor you can also see the Tara canyon, which is the second deepest canyon in the world.

The Accursed Mountains (shared between Montenegro, Albania & Kosovo) are also ideal for ski touring, due to their long steep faces and glacial relief. In recent years, due to the fall of communism and the increased cooperation between countries, mountain tourism has started to flourish.

With the great success of the Peaks of the Balkans project, that opened cross border tours in the region, small home stays appeared and more people started to arrive. In winter, the Accursed Mountains get large dumps of snow, as they are the first natural border for the coming snow. The Accursed Mountains, or Prokletije as the locals call them, are a part of the Dinaric Alps that spread from Slovenia via Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo.

Our local guides will ensure that you experience the best ski tours & freeride skiing in the area, and also get to enjoy local accommodation, cuisine and culture. We can make the area of Plav our base, and start our tours from there. We can tour up to multiple peaks above 2400 metres, like Pasji vrh (2405m), Starac peak (2460m) and Maja Kokervhakes (2400m).

This ski trip can be brightened with a visit to the beautiful small city of Kolashin, where a modern ski center is built. The ski center can be used to unwind from ski touring, or used to enjoy freeride skiing in the nearby forests accessed by the chairlifts.
